Got another three:
-how many accessories can a mouse equip?
-discarded items when the pack has run out of space are removed form the game, placed on the board where the mouse is currently or reshuffled into the deck?
-do mignons attack across red lines?

Ta.

-Items limit in the pack: the 3 items do include armor, weapons and accessories or not? The section "Search Cards" distinguishes between item, trick, event, party item, weapon, armor and accessories and mentions the limit only concerning items, but in the "Equip" section it the rules say non-trick items.

If you're wearing them, no. If you're holding them, yes. Trick cards do not count toward the item limit.

-to play ability card is an action?

it isn't. you can also only use an item during your turn.

-diagonal moves: applying the rule of adjacent spaces based on the figure base, these would be allowed as the figure bases bridges diagonal fields, but it seems to quick of a movement for the room tiles...

Diagonal moves are okay.

-do the mice attack/defend/search/recover as usual when in water?

Yes. But they cannot do any free actions.

-can mice move against the current?

Yes, but they must stop immediately upon reaching another water space.

-”Minions are not affected by water spaces in any way. ” That means they move over them as if they were normal spaces or do they avoid the water?

they treat them as normal spaces.

-a cheese counts as successful attack/defense or only gains cheese for the figure that rolled it?

you can only gain cheese during attacking or defending, successful or not. and yes, for the side that rolled it.

-”Inflicting wound”: some initiative cards show no heart symbol at all, do they die after one wound inflicted?

correct.

- search cards for one-off use are discarded from the game after use or remixed into the search deck?

discarded unless the card notes otherwise.

- special searches: do you have to roll the die to see if the search is successful?

always.

- when are encounter cards discarded? How is it possible that there is no face-up encounter card on the deck when a surge happens?

they are discarded when a surge happens and there isn't one in the book. you don't draw a new one until you get to a new tile. So yes, it is possible to not have a face-up encounter card when a surge strikes. don't forget to move the hourglass up, though; that always happens.

- surges: where is a surge minion to be placed on the board? Where does it go in the initiative order?

if there are still minions on the track, place them at the bottom. if there aren't, reestablish the initiative track. if the minion that is surging is already on the track, leave the track alone.

- Which minions are ranged?

the ones that show an arrow on their initiative card (Elite rats, vurst, etc.)

- does a “recover” action heal inflicted wounds, i.e. remove heart tokens?

No. it recovers from a status card (i.e. stunned or webbed).

- ”On a turn that a mouse is rescued, being rescued
takes up that mouse’s whole turn. ” That means no free actions, no abilities invoked, no movement?

Yep. Put the mouse on the tile and go to the next turn.

-”A knocked down figure must spend its entire
move to get back up. ” That means it may perform a non-move action?

Correct. A knocked down figure can still attack and defend normally.

-a charmed mouse attacks like a melee minion, but uses only the initiative card skills, so e.g. in case of Lily, she won't attack as she doesn't have melee attack skills?

Not sure on this. I would treat her as a ranged minion. Attacking with her base stats and using LoS.

Hi!

At first you should re-read the rule book. A lot of those questions are basic rules that are well described in the rule book.

-to play ability card is an action?
Only if the card says that using it is an action.

-diagonal moves: applying the rule of adjacent spaces based on the figure base, these would be allowed as the figure bases bridges diagonal fields, but it seems to quick of a movement for the room tiles...
If the base can gap the tiles, the model can move there.

-do the mice attack/defend/search/recover as usual when in water?
Yes. You can't do free actions (trade, level up, equip) though.

-can mice move against the current?
Yes. But remember that you can only move one space when moving from/into a water space.

-”Minions are not affected by water spaces in any way. ” That means they move over them as if they were normal spaces or do they avoid the water?
Minions treat all spaces as free spaces. Water does not hinder their movement at all.

a cheese counts as successful attack/defense or only gains cheese for the figure that rolled it?
A cheese just counts as a cheese. Heroes gain cheese, minions add cheese to the cheese wheel.

”Inflicting wound”: some initiative cards show no heart symbol at all, do they die after one wound inflicted?
All minions with no hearts printed on their initiative cards count as having only one heart. But remember that in a group of minions, every model has one heart, not all of them together.

- search cards for one-off use are discarded from the game after use or remixed into the search deck?
Discard pile.

- special searches: do you have to roll the die to see if the search is successful?
Yes, you still need to roll a star symbol.

when are encounter cards discarded? How is it possible that there is no face-up encounter card on the deck when a surge happens?
When a surge has happened, discard the active ecounter card.

- surges: where is a surge minion to be placed on the board? Where does it go in the initiative order?
It is added to the bottom of the initiative track.

- Which minions are ranged?
Look for the 'bow and arrow' symbol in the minions' stats. Elite Rats are ranged for example.

- does a “recover” action heal inflicted wounds, i.e. remove heart tokens?
No.

- ”On a turn that a mouse is rescued, being rescued
takes up that mouse’s whole turn. ” That means no free actions, no abilities invoked, no movement?
Yes, the mouse has to skip her entire turn.

-a charmed mouse attacks like a melee minion, but uses only the initiative card skills, so e.g. in case of Lily, she won't attack as she doesn't have melee attack skills?
Ranged characters can still attack close targets, they just act like melee charcaters when charmed.

-how many accessories can a mouse equip?

It seems no limit.

-discarded items when the pack has run out of space are removed form the game, placed on the board where the mouse is currently or reshuffled into the deck?

discarded into the discard pile.

-do minions attack across red lines?

Technically, yes. Don't forget that minions try to occupy the same space as the mice they are trying to attack. If they are merely adjacent and the space the mouse is on isn't full, move the minion into that space, then attack.

Hi!

I have a short question for you concerning the pinning rules in M&M.

How many mice do I need in one space to be able to move one of them away from two rats that occupy the same space?

If I recall the rules right, you at least need as many good guys as there are bad guys to be able to move one of the good guys out of the space, right?

1) non trick items

2) no, unless it says otherwise, for example mystic blast uses an action, but dodge does not.

3) diagonal is allowed in general

4)yes

5) treat as normal spaces

6) only gain cheese

7) yes that figure dies, but only remove the iniative card if all minions of that type are removed.

8) remixed

9) yes

10) encounter cards are discarded after a surge. Then on a second surge just advance the hourglass. Do not place more minions.

11) Vurst and elite rats

12) no

13) yes

14) yes even scurry if they want

15) all mice have a battle skill including Lilly. Charmed Lilly will attack with 2 dice if she is adjacent to or in the same space as another mouse. Follow the same rules as for a minion.

Hope that helps :)

To expand. If there are two mice and two minions, one mouse can leave, but the second mouse would be pined unless another mouse entered the tile or you defeat a minion.

Some of the above helpful posters above accidentally got a few things wrong. The biggest of which is that mice CANNOT move against the current of water. Note that this is an easy mistake to make because it was a rule left out of the original print rule book. If you download the updated rulebook from PHG's website, you'll see that it's been added there.

Also, where a surge minion's initiative card is added depends on whether there are any other minions currently on the board. If there are still minions on the board when the surge occurs, then the surge minion's card is added to the bottom of the initiative track and play continues with the next initiative slot. However, if there are no minions on the board when the surge occurs (for instance, after passing the last mouse on the initiative track with 5 cheese on the wheel), then the initiative track is reshuffled with the surge minion and play continues from initiative slot 1.

I did not know that indeed. That's quite a huge error and I wonder why this is not more of a common knowledge among players.

The rules really are difficult to grasp.

I agree, hence this shameless plug for a PDF I put in the files section that may be helpful (link below). It lists recommended highlights and annotations for your rulebook.

IMHO, the primary cause for rules confusion with this game, given the style in which the rules are presented, is the tendency to easily overlook or not realize the importance of key words and phrases. After seeing how much these highlights helped me upon returning to the game after an absence, I decided to post them on BGG.

My main problem with the rules is their "conversational" layout.
There are not a lot of bold characters or listings of points in the paragraphs.
When checking a rule, one has to read the whole text to note the details in it.
That type of rules beg for a player aid and/or a layout where elements of the rule catch the eye.

Robin, I felt the same as you so I produced an annotations and highlights aid that may be exactly what you're talking about. Hence this shameless plug for a PDF I put in the files section, which lists recommended highlights and annotations for your rulebook. Here's the link:

Hey guys,
i have some more doubts :P

1) A question about the Campaing mode,
reading from my Rulebook (i have the Italian version), i understand this:
At the end of a Chapter i pick a Search card from the ones i have in my equipment+bag.
Lets say i have Maginos, i start Chapter 1 with my Staff of maginos, and at the end of the chapter i keep the Cloak of trasnfer (sorry i didnt know the correct translate, the one that make you teleport to another place when you make a defence).
So, this way, im gonna start the second chapter with both the Staff of Maginos and this Cloak, right?
My question is, the Cloak become a 100% part of my starting equipment? so, can i DONT keep that at the end of chapter 2 but still have that at the beginning of chapter 3?
This way our Mice Heroes can hypotetically build 1 equipment card for every chapter?

2) This one is about Maginos, i think its not, but i wanna be sure, when he use is abilities, like Chain lighting or the Light Bolt (again sorry if i translate bad), does he get the bonus from is staff?
I have the doubt cause they are both a Ranged attacks, and the staff gives him +1 for ranged attacks.
So its like, did he get bonus wrom equipment and weapons when casting abilities?

Thank s a lot

I would be interested in the answer to #1 as well.

#2 would be a no, the staff's +1 is not counted.

Thank you so much for your info. Sometimes I just translate and then of course the game actually uses a different translation.
It's always hard to try to describe your problem especially when you're having problem with the wording on the cards.

Thread: Mice and Mystics:: Rules:: Chapter 5 - Brodie question and some other thing that has been nagging me

by Ophelia1987

Hello again,

first of all, I have to say, I really enjoy this game extremely and looking forward to the expansion being available in German (because I have the base game in German and don't want to mix languages).

Only critic from my side is that I sometimes feel lost with the rules. I don't really know how everything is intended to be played all the time.

So here are two questions for you guys:

1. Regarding chapter 5: The goal is to fight Brodie. But you mix one of the Brodie cards in with the "main enemies". So when you call Brodie in the Kitchen do both of the cards come in play or only the one that is left over?

1.2 What happens when you have the scroll where you can call on Brodie? Can he appear and be defeated in the first room (the forge).

2. I have read up on this problem and actually was confused by the answer. Can you stack bonuses on weapons? So e.g. Finger (Filch) has a dagger and another weapon with +1 attack point equipped. Does he get the +1 bonus only if he doesn't use the "-1 defense dice bonus (if lower no the initiative score" for the enemy? I looked at the official FAQ but was confused with answer 1.1.4 and 1.3.2. One says only one bonus counts but the other says bonuses can stack. I must have gotten the meaning wrong. Below the link:

http://www.plaidhatgames.com/images/games/mice-and-mystics/m...

Your help is as always very much appreciated.
