What I'd love to see, personally, would be some guidelines/suggestions for community based stories using the original core set. Ideas on how to choose tiles, how to decide on standard or special set-up, etc. I think community creativity would quell the critics who complain about the replay value.

I want to develop some "fanfiction" of my own, once I finish the Sorrow and Remembrance storyline.

Thank you, again, Jerry, for a wonderful game and story!

Not got rules handy but I would play the surge on the main groups tile. Or lily will be toast.

And I'm pretty sure you can just use other tokens for traps ie they are not limited like minions.

Just as a topic of conversation, I've never been a fan of card sleeves. I hope Paid Hat Games ends up offering replacement decks to be purchased.

Good point, Nez can wear just about anything and there are a lot of items for him in the desk.

I always gave Nez the thimble helmet but now might reconsider.

That's sounds like really bad luck to me. I'm not sure about the ruling as well but if the surge got triggered on Lily's tile, I would have to put that surge minion on that tile. That would only happen if Lily was not hitting the roaches or rats though. Remember that, if Lily is using Lily's Bow (I suppose she is since chapter 2 is the first time you would meet her) then any cheese rolled by the minions while defending should go to her stash. So cheese would only get added to the wheel if the minions are able to attack her somehow and roll cheese. I might be missing something from your scenario though. ranged minions on lily's tile perhaps?

I would also use a mouse trap proxy if it came to that. We did not experience that though during our game...

I have a Filtch related question that came up while in the kitchen as well.

If the roaches are below Filch in the initiative track are all hits counted? Do the roaches even roll for defense since they only roll 1 die?

Hi all-

I've looked through this forum and have found a ton of info, just not exactly what I'm looking for.

I recall the rulebook saying that water has no effect on minions. So...

1) Does that mean when I'm in the water (Ch 1) that minions can ENTER the water and attack me?

2) Can a minion attack me if they're on a non-water surface adjacent to me (I'm in the water)? If so, can I defend? I AM treading water against a current at the time after all....

As far as (1) goes above, I would think a Rat could enter the water and maybe attack me, but roaches? Surely they'd get swept away! (let's be real here) Maybe I'm over-thinking it. I've just been playing it that the minions move as close to me as possible, but they don't enter the water or attack until I'm out.

3) Searching in the water. Not possible as there are no actions allowed in the water? So to find the Fish Hook and Thread I'd have to get out and search an adjacent water space, right? (I always thought you could only search the space you were standing on)

I really like this game a lot, but have more questions each time I play it! Thanks everyone in advance for always being so helpful!

1) I believe so, yes.

2) Again, yes to both.

3) As best I remember, no _free_ actions are allowed in the water, i.e. no equipping, trading items, & so on. Searching is allowed, and you must search in the water to find the Fish Hook.

Yah, the bit about minions being unaffected by water is not particularly realistic.

Just to clarify, searching is _not_ a free action, e.g. you can't attack & search in the same turn.

I'm pretty sure a mouse can attack while they're in water.

When dealing with minions, forget about water, their behaviour is exactly the same in water and out of it. This might be a little unthematic, but I suppose Jerry did it that way for ease of rules.

About the third question, as others said, searching is not a free action which are the only ones forbidden in water spaces.

Not that much unthematic. Rats generally are bigger and stronger than mice. And ehm... so are the spiders, centipedes and cockroaches in this game.

I don't have the rules (or Quest Guide, for that matter) on hand, but we just completed this Chapter over the weekend.I believe that in the Chapter 2 special set-up instructions,it specifies that a surge happens on the tile where your party is located. I think the key is to remember that Lily isn't considered part of the party since she is captured.

Per those those instructions (again, I'm going off of memory here) if the surge consists of small minions, you place all but one of the minions as normal and then add a cockroach to Lily's tile for her to deal with. If the surge is a large minion, that minion gets placed as normal and an additional cockroach is added to Lily's tile. So, if a surge occurred that called for 4 rat warriors, you would place 3 warriors on the tile where your party is currently located and a single cockroach on Lily's tile. Otherwise, you won't place any minions on that tile until your party enters the square, and a large minion cannot be added for Lily to deal with on her own. As we found out over the weekend, it is definitely possible for more than one roach to be on her tile and going after just her, however!

As I said before, I think the confusion might be because it sounds like you were considering Lily to be a party member, which is a mistake we made the first time we played as well. I believe (again, without the rules in front of me) that your "party" is necessarily always on the same tile, since any explore action taken by a mouse moves the entire party to the new tile.

As for the third mouse trap, we had the same issue come up and dealt with it as you did. We both thought it was a little odd that there wasn't an extra included in the box.

Then again, I could be mistaken as well.

At some point theme must stand aside for gameplay. I think it would be far too easy to 'game' the AI if minions were affected by water in the same way that mice were.

If you want a thematic reason, just imagine that Vanestra's enchantment that allows her to control all the minions in the game also gives them the ability to easily traverse water.

Jerry (the designer) has stated elsewhere in this forum that there is no limit to the mousetrap counters. When two mousetraps are needed in Chapter two, I just take the one from under Lily for that encounter and then replace it after the mousetraps are cleared from the other tile. It doesn't serve an actual gameplay function there anyway.

Regarding the surge on Lily's tile... It's a good question. I think my first instinct would be to cancel the minion placement for that surge (and just advance the hourglass marker). My second thought would be to just place a roach as normal on Lily's tile. My third thought would be to do the surge on the tile the rest of the mice were on. I don't know which I like best, but I'd think one of those three would be 'correct'.

It would be interesting to hear Jerry's thoughts on the matter.

Well not exactly broken, the head is not attached to the body. I just bought the game and I'm sure I could get a replacement but Id rather get it fixed sooner so I can play.

I tried to repair it with Zap a Gap, but it doesn't bond. Anyone know what type of glue would work best on the plastic?

That's odd because I had the exact same issue last week when I got my copy but mine stuck fine with a blob of superglue (loctite - I'm in the UK)

Maybe try scratching the surfaces to be bonded slightly to allow the glue something to grip? Failing that polystyrene cement perhaps but I'm no glue expert so that might be totally wrong!

Cheers

Andrew

I also had success re-attaching a Nez figure that came separated from his base with LocTite super glue. Maybe try to clean off any residual adhesive left over from the first failed gluing?
