I posit it to the group each time I play. I've had one group that didn't care, one that said only from the counter, and one that said you could fire from the back corners because the angle was right.↧

Does Intense Cowering work against Brodie? I found this unclear in the rules...↧

As for me,I play that red line block line of sight when it's against a melee minion, assuming they are "hiding" for exemple in the middle of the table.
Against ranged minion, I assume that in order to see us, they need to go over the edge so they can attack.

I can't say how excited I am to introduce this game to my niece who is 5 1/2. We were eating lunch with my sister's family a couple of weeks ago and my niece was drew a little picture of a mouse. I told her that I have a game where a group of mice have to save their king from an evil witch who has put him under a spell. She seemed interested in it and then went back to drawing. At the end of lunch she came up to me with five pictures of mice and one picture of a king and then asked me how to play the game with them. It was awesome. Can't wait to get this to the table!↧
Thread: Mice and Mystics:: General:: How does this play as an adults only game?

Hi,My wife and I love gaming, fantasy, literature and the sorts. So really we're just big kids I suppose. But that does not mean we would enjoy a game that has very little strategy and/or is mostly shallow in its game play.
We have watched and read reviews and looked through countless pictures. The theme is wonderful but we though we should ask the community how the game is regarding decisions throughout the game, strategy, and depth.
If I may ask the audience a few questions!
> Are there a good bit of choices throughout the game that affect game play?
> Is there a light-medium amount of strategy involved or are many of the turns auto-pilot?
> How well does the game play 2 player (2 adults)?
Thanks!

I've played it a few times as adults only, and enjoyed every play. My wife, who isn't a huge gamer enjoys it as well.
A word of caution; I believe most scenarios (chapters) are designed for play with 4 people. My wife and I both control two characters and it works fine, but that may not be for everyone.

Thanks Andrew. Can you speak specifically about the choices and strategy?historygamer89 wrote:

There are some choices throughout the game but mostly what you will be doing is moving and searching or moving and attacking. Occasionally you get other choices such as exploring or leveling up.There is some light strategy but mostly the immediate threat is very obvious so you may have some decision to make as far as items and equipment and how to use your abilities to there fullest potential. Some chapters are less auto pilot than others.
The game plays very well with 2 players each one controls 2 mice and once one is rolling attack the other one can roll the attack for minions...
All in all if you like the story and like the concept its probably a good game for you and your wife....if you are a hardcore dungeon crawl fan and love all the strategy maybe its not the best choice.
Good Luck.

It's been a few months since I played it, but I do remember there being enough strategy that I enjoyed it, but not so much that my wife was disinterested. Since it's a co-op, it can suffer from "bossy syndrome", but that can also depend on your style of play.
Since it uses dice for combat, there is some luck and some mitigating factors depending on the dice rolls (if you roll really poorly more enemies might emerge). But even though I knew what the overall goal was, I didn't feel like it was easy to get there; there were a few considerations for each map tile.
Does this help, or do you need more?

Not much for choice, and most of the choices are straightforward. You'll usually need to play 2 mice each. Not hard to do by any means.
One scenario will be a bit problematic, since it has one player controlling a character that switches between being an ally and an enemy. This is less problematic with 2 player than with 4, since there are only 3 characters total in the scenario!
If you've never played a dungeoncrawl, you may find it pretty amazing. If you've played lots of dungeoncrawl games, it's pretty lackluster. My girlfriend and I were very disappointed with it - but we have played just about every dungeon crawl type game.

Hello Justin,
I will respond to your questions.
First I play many games with my wife.
We play games like:
Eclipse
War of the ring
Catan
Battlelore
Twilight Imperium
Through the ages
etc...
This game plays wonderfully as a spousal game.
There are many choices throughout each chapter, such as should we go into this room to get this cool item and fight some baddies or just try and accomplish the mission without that special item.
There is no "auto-pilot" at least one player has to be thinking ahead of things that "might" or "could" or "will" or "will definitely" happen. The game is even better if two players know the above.
With huge replay value and an INTENSE theme (This game is practically dripping with theme!) you and your wife will not be disappointed.

I play with my wife and kids and my wife loves it as much as my daughters. I highly recommend.

Strategy is light. You do have decisions to make on how you want to level up your character, what equipment to keep, and what optional events to try and accomplish, but ultimately your success is determined by how the dice roll. If you are anti-Ameritrash in general, you may want to look elsewhere. For me, it is a hit. It brings me the same joy as when in my youth, all my friends would get together and play video games in the same living room.

They should give you an idea of the game play.

Yeah, just consider the card to be a free pass when being attacked by a minion.↧
