The 1 roach kill came at the end of the game once she had joined the party. We did not let Lilly attack at all until the other mice had reached her as we felt she wouldn't be able to because she isn't part of the party yet.

For the first part - All roaches take cheese instead of inflict wounds. If a mice is out of cheese, then they take wounds. Greedy roaches take the cheese and add it to the surge wheel.
From what I know of this chapter, Lily's initiative card is always in play during all the encounters, so she takes a turn as normal even when she is separated.
Thanks for the correction on roaches as I hadn't picked that up.
Looks like we made it harder for ourselves than we had to. Definitely resulted in us not searching as often. But all good going forward - thanks.
