Generally, game where one player has to play the game master and the other has to play multiple heroes did not work for us. Playing many heroes makes you loose the connection to a specific hero (instead of feeling like you were actually playing a single hero). And playing against each other also often sucks in this kind of games, because the group discussion is where the fun in in Descent and the likes. So, I do not think I will play such kind of game again. Only exception is maybe Catacombs, but even that one is more fun if you have more than one hero player. We played Mage Knight quite a few times, but the coop variants did not work very good for us. It seems the expansion might change this. But anyway, as great as the game is, for me it does not feel that much "story-telling" like the D&D board games(and hopefully M&M).
Gears of War was another miss - I liked the system in general, but again, it was too much focused on a single aspect - fighting (of course, you can expect that in a video game conversion :) ). We had the feeling that we did always the same: Fight, get to a tile to fulfill a mission part, fight, mission, fight... nothing cool in between. This is were Earth Reborn really shines, because you can do a lot of different things there, even if it comes down to fighting also in the end.
Btw: Is it a must that each player controls 2 mice in a player game?
