I think Filch, similar to Maginus, pays for his class and access to it's powers with lower stats/starting equip. He can use equipment others can't such as bows. He can use that insanely good dodge ability to cancel a strong minion's turn.
Remember, you can only use one ability per turn, but aren't limited to one ability per initiative round. That means you can dodge a minion on that minion's turn, then dodge another minion on the other minion's turn, all in the same round.
Stealing cheese from the wheel is great, but it only works on the basic rats, not the elite rats or special characters.
Make sure to attack people lower on the initiative track than you. Less defense dice for them means less chances to block your attacks AND less chances to get cheese for the minions.
I wouldn't recommend taking the multi-dagger attack skill from the start, since daggers aren't super common. Take it as a level up if you obtain a dagger.
And remember that luck is everything. If a character seems weak after a game or two, theirs a 50/50 chance you were just rolling bad.
