I did then flip the tile we were going into to the courtyard then, so we did play it correctly. Just wanted to make sure we didn't need to flip back from the kitchen, then go to the next tile, fight the minions there, then flip that tile to the courtyard (which you would have had to do if you didn't go help in the kitchen).
